July's Cleaning Checklist

Here we are, half way through July and I’m just now sitting down to write this blog post. That’s been my habit lately… oops! Maybe this will be more helpful to people next year. One of my main goals with this is to be truly helpful to people. Sometimes a house (or apartment) suddenly seems really big once you start thinking about keeping it clean. I want to help you feel like you don’t have to do it all at once, and don’t even have to do it all at 100% when you do clean it. (If you’re a perfectionist like me, you probably threw up in your mouth a little bit just then. It’s ok. You’ll be ok, promise.)

Alright, here it is: the big monthly chore. In addition to (trying to) keep up on your Monthly and Weekly chores during this busy summer month you’ll also beeeeee… cleaning the baseboards! This is the second time this year we’ve done baseboards; the first time was in February. If you got down and really cleaned them with warm water or Murphy’s Oil Soap last time, you can probably just walk around the house with a broom and swish-swish the dust off. We don’t have a driveway or garage, so walking on the grass to get into the house every single time means the dirt and dust in our house really builds up in unexpected places. Baseboards are one of those places. Since I did a good, deep cleaning in February I’m going to just sweep the baseboards off in the hallway, bedrooms, and bathrooms but go around with a damp cloth in the living room, dining room, play room and kitchen. The utility room only ever gets a sweeping off because, really, who cares. If you’re looking to do a lighter cleaning this time around, no shame. Here are the places I’ve noticed get really dirty really fast, so you might want to hit these with a damp cloth:

  • The most used entry way
  • Wherever your pet likes to hang out the most
  • Behind the bathroom door (ESPECIALLY if you blow dry your hair)
  • The kitchen

Alright, there it is y’all! Have a really great rest of the month and I’ll see you back here in August for some back-to-school grief cleaning. (Not really. August will be more of an organization guideline than a cleaning checklist.)
