Weekly Cleaning Checklist!

Alright, y’all! As you can tell, I’ve been on a checklist spree. I just find them sooooo helpful! I hope you do, too. I cannot emphasize how much mental space it’ll clear out to get all those “to-dos” out of your head and onto paper. If you’re on the fence about it, just give it a trial. Tell ya what - give the checklists a three month trial. If you hate it, I’ll give you your money back. (hahaha… jokes!)

Below is the pdf of my weekly chore checklist. Aside from some light tidying and wiping down surfaces, just a washcloth and water nothing fancy, the only other chores I do weekly are cleaning toilets & vacuuming. Of all the chores I do monthly, the floors are the quickest to get dirty again. Ya see, we live out in the country a little ways. We don’t live on a dirt road, but we also don’t have a driveway. No matter how much we all try we track dirt in all.the.time. Before we moved out here, I probably vacuumed every other weekend. Once we moved out here, I started vacuuming every Friday or Saturday. Then after a full weekend of playing outside and grilling the floors were a mess by Monday! How frustrating. Now I vacuum on Monday and just do my best to ignore the mess Saturday & Sunday. Weekends should be for family time and for relaxing, so as much as possible please try to avoid chores on the weekends. Remember, “the Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath." Rest is holy. You don’t have to do any amount of work - you can’t do enough work - to earn rest. So when it’s time to rest, rest fully. Play hard. Track in mud. And enjoy every minute of it.

Just as much as I’m an advocate of playing hard and resting well, I believe your kids should see you do housework. When Davis was a baby, I saved all my housework for when he was napping. At first it wasn’t a problem - babies nap a lot. Then it turned into a real struggle when I did have to do some work when he was awake. It took a good few months, but I slowly started doing more and more housework while he was awake. Now he enjoys running around picking things up off the floor as I vacuum. Sometimes he even gets brave and helps push the vacuum! Mama, you work hard. So hard. Let your kids see that! Give them the opportunity to grow up grateful for what you do, and the opportunity to learn to enjoy hard work from a young age. Then they can take over the chores! After all, that’s what motherhood is all about, right?
